Women’s Day 2023

Women Leading in Service to God, 1 Peter 4:10 – 11

Women’s Day Guest Speaker, Min. Carmen M. Knight

A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Reverend Carmen M. Knight currently serves as an Associate Minister at the historic Second Baptist Church SW in District Heights, Maryland. Reverend Knight was licensed to preach on June 1, 2012, and ordained on April 2, 2017, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Keith W. Byrd, Sr, Senior Pastor of Zion Baptist Church.

Reverend Knight is a dedicated servant of God. She began her dedication to service at an early age. As a child, she spent her summer vacations volunteering at the Capital Children’s Museum, Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., and participating in outreach with her grandmother’s Missionary Circle at Galbraith AME Church in D.C.

Reverend Knight’s mission in life is to empower the powerless and disenfranchised, and to spread the Gospel to unreached people groups all over the world.

During her time at Zion Baptist Church, she started a local outreach at the Central Union Mission (men’s shelter) and the N Street Village (women’s shelter). Recognizing the plight of the homeless and the poor in the Nation’s Capital, Reverend Knight began serving brown bag lunches in the parks in downtown D.C.

Reverend Knight holds an earned Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and a Master of Divinity Degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Additionally, she holds a Master of Science Degree in Management Information Systems. Reverend Knight was a 2017 Black Theology & Leadership Institute Fellow at Princeton Seminary. In January 2018, Reverend Knight was selected as one of the twelve Foster America Fellows across the U.S. to work with child welfare agencies and nonprofit organizations to transform the child welfare system: making better outcomes for our most vulnerable children and families.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If you speak, you should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If you serve, you should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the  glory and the power forever and ever, amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11
